A Place to Call Your Own —
The Women's Heart Center
Take care of yourself is an age old saying
and as women, we know we need to take care of our bodies. But rarely
do we put ourselves first as we juggle the demands of a career, motherhood
and marriage. We push our husbands to seek treatment; to test their
cholesterol, have the stress test, etc. while our own health is neglected
and ignored.
But
now, there is a place for women to call their own. The Women's
Heart Center offers innovative care in a unique, nurturing environment
with specialists solely focused on women's heart care providing a
full range of preventive, diagnostic
and treatment options.
Although
a woman's physical needs are paramount, her emotional well-being
needs care as well. There's no doubt that when women come together
energy is created and we want to channel that energy into creating
awareness for others. That's why we've created the Women's Heart
Center, a place where women facing similar challenges can come together,
share their experiences and increase awareness.
Raising
awareness is a huge undertaking. A recent study found that only 8
percent of women believe that heart disease and stroke are their greatest
health risks. Women believe breast cancer is their main enemy, when
in reality, heart disease is the number one killer of women. It is
the disease we need to fight.
The Women's Heart Center will fight the fight by providing comprehensive care in one place. Through support groups, educational programs and screenings, we offer women ideas and preventative strategies that can be applied to their daily routines. In addition, we've partnered with an exercise center to have cardiovascular fitness provided on site.
Furthermore,
as we participate in women-focused research
activities, we may be able to help shed new light on heart disease
in the future. Our vision is to partner with physicians, the community,
and each other to better prevent, detect and treat heart disease.
It's imperative to have time to focus on you. The demands of life will not go away. The goal is to learn to manage these demands while maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It's an empowering process to take charge of your own heart health. I'm proud to be with you on this journey.
Sincerely,
Santosh Gill, M.D.
